The St. Louis Cardinals have called up top prospect Alex Reyes to take Michael Wacha"s spot on the 25-man roster after the latter was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.
Reyes, 21, entered the season as Baseball America's seventh-best prospect in the game. He was pitching to a 2-3 record with a 5.23 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in Triple-A Memphis at the time of the call up. Though, it must be noted that the Pacific Coast League is widely known to be hitter-friendly.
Reyes, a New Jersey native, is also striking out nearly 13 batters per nine innings thus far on the season. Luke Weaver is expected to take Wacha's initial turn in the rotation, but it looks like Reyes will get his opportunity soon enough.
