Recently released by the Houston Astros after being designated for assignment, outfielder Carlos Gomez will remain in the state of Texas and in the American League West.
Gomez has signed on with the Texas Rangers for the remainder of the season.
After losing Shin-Soo Choo with a fractured foream, it became a necessity for the Rangers to add another outfielder. In Gomez, they're getting a former All-Star that struggled a great deal in Houston following his trade from the Milwaukee Brewers last July.
Gomez, 30, was hitting .210 with a .272 on-base percentage with the Astros before being DFA'd. This cames on the heels of him posting a .242/.288 split in 41 games with the Astros last season.
