Daily FanDuel Fantasy Hockey Picks: Jan 30, 2015

There is a five-game NHL schedule on Friday night as we hit the lull day between big nights on Thursday and Saturday. There are some good scoring teams in action tonight, but the matchups are not ideal, and the strength of teams in a couple games might cancel each other out with a tight low scoring game. It is usually more difficult to identify the top teams to target on nights with smaller schedules, and that is the case again tonight. That said, there are a lot of great choices for teams to stack for daily fantasy hockey tournaments, and even some off-the-board stack options.

Today’s article will provide analysis for the teams in action, top teams to target for daily fantasy, recommend players for FanDuel, and even sample lineups that could be used to help build ones for tonight’s play.

Top Teams to Target Tonight for Daily Fantasy Hockey

Pittsburgh Penguins – Pittsburgh has been hit hard with injuries this year, but their offense has been able to work through them and still be ranked in the top 10 for goal scoring and also powerplay. Conversely, the Devils are ranked in the bottom 10 for goals allowed and penalty killing. The top targets for the Penguins tonight are Sidney Crosby, David Perron, Chris Kunitz, Patric Hornqvist and defenseman Kris Letang. A Penguins stack in tournaments with that group is a great play, and a couple could be included in cash game lineups.

Recommended Plays for FanDuel

Ryan Miller ($8,700) – The Canucks’ starting goaltender on Friday night will be a top target in daily fantasy hockey for all game types and his ownership level will be very high. Despite that though it is recommended to “go with the flow” and use them also. The Canucks have been a strong defensive team all season (top 10 in goals against) and they face a Sabres team that is last in the league in all major categories (goals-for, goals-against, shots-on-goal, shots-against, powerplay percentage, penalty kill percentage).

Daniel Sedin ($6,100) – The league doormat Sabres continue their west coast road trip and will next face the Canucks in Vancouver. The Canucks, led by the Sedin twins, are in a great position to score tonight and they could be in line for multiple goals.

Jiri Tlusty ($3,900) – The Hurricanes have been rejuvenated and playing great hockey lately. They are currently riding a three-game winning streak with 11 goals, and the top line of Eric Staal, Jordan Staal and Jiri Tlusty is leading the way. Tlusty has points in two straight games and his salary has not yet caught up to his production, which makes him a great VALUE play tonight.
