The NHL serves up another 11-game schedule on Saturday, but this time things are split with 3 afternoon games and 8 night games. There are game options on FanDuel for both slates and those early birds can get things started with the 1pm EST games (and today’s article includes some recommended plays for them). The schedule offers up a lot of good choices in the later games for teams to stack for tournaments, and there are a few teams that stand out (and are highlighted below) for your cash game (50/50, head-to-head) lineups as well.
Today’s article will provide analysis for the teams in action, top teams to target for daily fantasy, recommend players for FanDuel, and even sample lineups that could be used to help build ones for tonight’s play.
Top Teams to Target Tonight for Daily Fantasy Hockey
Tampa Bay Lightning – Tampa Bay extended their home winning streak to nine games with a decisive 5-1 over Montréal on Thursday night, and they padded their lead as the league’s top scoring team. Their opponent tonight – Columbus Blue Jackets – are in the bottom five in the league for goals against / game, and they’ve given up 10 goals in their past three games. The Lightning are a deep offensive team, getting goal scoring across a few lines these days, and many of their players are targets tonight in daily fantasy across all game types. For tournament lineups, any of the top lines could be stacked together, or perhaps the top powerplay unit is the most potent with Steven Stamkos, Ryan Callahan, Valtteri Filppulla, Jonathan Drouin and Anton Stralman. For cash game lineups, getting a forward from different lines is a good strategy, along with Stralman or Jason Garrison on defense.
Recommended Plays for FanDuel
TOP GOALTENDER PLAYS
Henrik Lundqvist ($9,900) – Lundqvist is always one of the most expensive goaltenders, and for good reason. He plays nearly every game for the Rangers and is a very consistent netminder. Lundy has had another strong season with 23 wins, a 2.26 GAA and .921 SvPct, which are amongst the league leaders. Tonight the Rangers face Carolina who are playing back-to-back road games (3-2 loss last night), and they’ve struggled on the road this season. The Rangers are heavily favored for the win and you can use Lundqvist with confidence tonight in daily fantasy.
TOP CENTER PLAYS
Claude Giroux ($8,100) – Giroux is someone worth playing in daily fantasy Every.Single.Day. He’s as consistent a point producer as there is in the NHL and he rarely disappoints in our daily game. When he’s at home and facing a bad team, he becomes a must play. There is no end in sight to the Leafs’ slide, and there is a good chance for another blowout loss being delivered to them, this time by the Flyers. Put Giroux in your cash game lineups as the first player you click on and build the rest from there. In tournaments, use Philadelphia and stack away.
TOP LEFT WINGER PLAYS
Jonathan Drouin ($4,100) – Drouin participated in All-Star weekend and seemed to gain confidence with that experience, scoring one point the next regular season game, and then two last game (with a plus two rating and two shots both games). It’s helped that Drouin was moved up to the top powerplay unit and is now getting more opportunities to score with better playmakers. At $4,100 his price is still in VALUE territory, however if his production continues like this that will quickly change (see Kucherov, Nikita).
