Adam Scott Gets Homecoming Win in Australian PGA

Adam Scott capped off his triumphant return to the land down under with a win at the Australian PGA Championship. His final round 67 was good enough for the four-shot victory over Rickie Fowler.

This was the first opportunity Scott has had to return to Australia since his win at the Masters in early April. He received the keys to the city, as well as, applause and adulation wherever he went.

Scott was the first Aussie to don the Green Jacket and sports fans in Australia had to wait seven months to show their appreciation of his major accomplishment.

Fowler held the first-round lead on Thursday after a solid eight-under par 63. His second round of one-over par 72 moved him down the leaderboard, but rounds of 71-68 on the weekend earned him the runner-up spot.

Fowler beat Rory Mcilroy in a playoff for his lone win on the PGA Tour at the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship. He had an acceptable year on tour in 2013 with five top-10 finishes and $1.8 million in earnings.

At the age of 33, Scott is reaching the pinnacle of his career. In addition to winning the Masters last season, he added six top-10 finishes including a second win at The Barclays in the FedEx Cup playoffs. He won nearly $5 million and is No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

This is his third world-wide win this year and fourth career win on the Australasia Tour. Scott has 24 official professional wins, 10 on the PGA Tour and nine on the European Tour.

Other names of note in the field at the Australian PGA Championship included International Presidents Cup Team member, Marc Leishman, who finished T-11 at four-under par. Scott Strange, son of Curtis, finished T-22 at two-under par.

Fifty-four year old Champions Tour member, Peter Senior proved he can still compete with the young guys by making the cut and finishing T-45.

2011 U.S. Amateur champion, Kelly Kraft shot 74-73 and missed the cut.
