Adam Scott is making his first return to his home country of Australia since his win in early April at the Masters Tournament.
In honor of Scott being the first Australian to win the prestigious Green Jacket, tournament organizers called for a “Green Day” on Friday at the Australian PGA Championship. Players and fans alike donned their best green attire and covered the RACV Royal Pines Resort in a sea of green.
According to the Golf Channel Scott appreciated the efforts of his fans and other players as well,
“The PGA wanted to make today a green day and everyone embraced it, even the players, which is really special for me that my peers would do that. Its nice to see that they (players) enjoy seeing an Aussie win the Masters too.”
Scott has been received as the conquering hero in his native country. He received the key to the city of the Gold Coast and has been the beneficiary of adulation wherever he travels.
Scott has not disappointed his fans on the golf course either. After posting 65-67 10-under par for his first two rounds, he leads the Australian PGA Championship by two shots over fellow Aussie, David McKenzie.
First round leader Rickie Fowler struggled in the second-round with a one-over par 72. He is at seven-under par after 36 holes and trails Scott by three shots.
Fowler led after the first round with an eight-under par 63. He was a bit unlucky with his afternoon draw for the second round, as windy conditions and bumpy greens made the golf course play much more difficult.
