Nine of the final 16 at the WGC-Accenture Match Play this week at Dove Mountain in Arizona are from the United States.
Europeans have dominated the Ryder Cup for the last 10 years and International players won this event five out of six years from 2006-2011.
Americans, Hunter Mahan won the WGC-Accenture in 2012 and Matt Kuchar was the winner here last year.
Neither Tiger Woods nor Phil Mickelson was in the field this week and Henrik Stenson from Sweden was the top-ranked player in the field. He was run out in the second round by Louis Oosthuizen.
Bubba Watson got his first win on the PGA Tour since the 2012 Masters last week at the Northern Trust Open. Watson, a three seed, got past two Europeans, Mikko Ilonen in the first round and Jonas Blixt in the second. He will face yet another good young European, Victor Dubuisson in the third round.
At least two Americans will be eliminated on Friday as Jordan Spieth is pitted against 2013 match play champion, Matt Kuchar. In a very interesting match, veteran Jim Furyk has to face youngster Harris English.
Another intriguing match features Rickie Fowler, who has beaten match play wizard, Ian Poulter and the hottest player in the world, Jimmy Walker in the first two rounds to reach the round of 16.
In a rematch, Hunter Mahan is facing Graeme McDowell. Mahan muffed a chip shot to allow McDowell to sink the winning putt in the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Ernie Els took out Justin Rose and Stephen Gallacher and faces Jason Dufner on Friday.
Webb Simpson and Louis Oosthuizen should provide an excellent match.
Jason Day from Australia faces South Africa’s George Coetzee in the only match that features two International players.
Nine of the 16 final players at the WGC-Accenture Match Play are Americans, but International and European players may be in the majority for the quarter-finals.
