Back 9 Network Founder & CEO Jamie Bosworth Resigns

It was reported last week on HartfordBusiness.com that Back 9 Network founder and CEO Jamie Bosworth suddenly resigned from the fledgling golf network to pursue other opportunities.

This was a very sudden change, especially with Back 9 Network set to begin airing on Direct TV at the end of September.

Back 9 Network has sought to gain a slot on a cable network, but has faced stiff opposition from media giant Comcast. Just when the new network thought they were making progress with Time Warner, Comcast bought out the cable provider.

Comcast through a subsidiary, NBC Sports, also owns the Golf Channel, which would be a competitor of the Back 9 Network.

Bosworth and Back 9 Network executives even testified before Congress that the Time Warner buyout was bad for the American public.

Bosworth founded Back 9 Network in 2010 with friend Reid Gorman, who is now the Chief Operating Officer.

It was announced that current Back 9 Network Chief Financial Officer, Charles Cox would assume Bosworth’s position as CEO.

The company has raised nearly $30 million in funding, including loan guarantees of $5 million from the state of Connecticut.

Back 9 Network has been offering news and content through its website while seeking its first carriage deal.

Former NFL star and television broadcaster, Ahmad Rashad is producing one of the programs for the network and it plans to have a complete slate of programming when the network goes live on Direct TV, Septemer 29.

I think there will be more to this story in the coming weeks. It is highly unusual for the founding member of a company to abruptly walk away just as the company seems to be achieving a major goal.
