Tuesday evening on the Back 9 Report Carlos Torres and Kieran Clark covered news topics from around the world of golf.
One of the pet peeves of the media that cover the PGA Tour is the deafening silence of tour officials when its members are fined or disciplined for breaking tour rules. Perhaps they may have to be more forthcoming in the future as the tour must comply with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) rules on drug testing.
The International Golf Federation (IGF) will administer the drug testing policy for the IOF and it differs greatly from the PGA Tour policy.
The IGF subscribes to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) procedures and rules, which has not been accepted by the PGA Tour and allows for more transparency.
Players who qualify for the 2016 Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will be schooled on those differences throughout the year in 2015.
Evidently Dustin Johnson has found something to fill up his days while on a sabbatical from the PGA Tour. Paulina Gretsky posted a picture on Instagram showing a definite baby bump. The couple will be expecting their first child.
The World Golf Hall of Fame announced that it will take its show on the road. The 2015 induction ceremony will be held at St. Andrews just prior to the Open Championship.
The World Golf Hall of Fame has been criticized for not including the rest of the world in the past. The 2019 induction ceremony is scheduled to be held at Pebble Beach ahead of the U.S. Open.
In a labor/management tiff some camera crew employees boycotted the Ryder Cup held at Gleneagles, due to pay dispute with NBC. The media conglomerate evidently offered to pay crew members less than the normally established rate.
NBC executives announced that most of the crew on the ground in Scotland were experienced NBC personnel and only a few crew members boycotted the Ryder Cup.
Jason Day has struggled with a hand injury for most the year after winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play and announced he will miss the Australian Open at the end of November.
Day has been advised to spend the next few months rebuilding the strength in his back and core to assure the greatest chance for an injury-free 2015. His medical team felt the long flight from Ohio to Australia would be difficult.
