Scotland’s Heather Macrae holds the lead after first round of the Ladies European Tour’s (LET) Turkish Airlines Ladies Open at the National Golf Club in Antalya, Turkey.
In overcast, cool conditions on Thursday, she posted a six-under par 67 to lead by one shot over Gwladys Nocera and Malene Jorgensen.
Klara Spilkova and Mikaela Parmlid T-4 are one more shot back at four-under par.
Teenage sensation Charley Hull and amateur Mathilda Cappeliez both posted three-under par for the first round and are tied for sixth.
Heavy rains and winds set in overnight in Antalya and flooding on the greens has made play impossible. Friday’s second round has been canceled and the tournament will be reduced to 54 holes and complete on Sunday.
Tournament officials announced that Friday’s tee times and groupings would hold for Saturday. The cut will include the top 60 players and ties after 36 holes are complete.
Tournament director, Steve Kavanagh said:
“This decision has been taken with the forecast for heavy rain until mid-afternoon. The outlook for tomorrow (Saturday) is for occasional showers which will give the course ample time to recover and the greens keepers time to repair any damage to bunkers. Sunshine is forecast for Sunday.”
The best LET players have been assembled to compete for the €250,000 purse. The tournament is being broadcast across the world and in America by Golf Channel.
The title sponsor of this event, Turkish Airlines also sponsors the $7 million Turkish Airlines Open. It is the last tournament on the European Tour schedule in November before the conclusion of the Race to Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship.
The international airline is very involved in promoting travel to Turkey and highlighting the wonderful golf and cultural opportunities.
