In a wonderful depiction of “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” the PGA of America has announced that it has extended it’s stay in Bermuda for two more years thru 2014. It is good news for Bermuda’s Department of Tourism outreach and continues their original hope that Tiger Woods might qualify for the event.

The event has been in Bermuda for the last six years. The only change from past years is that it is scheduled a bit earlier, but hardly anyone will notice since it is a weekday event.

Recently, in my report on this year’s event, I lamented the coverage by TNT. I only hope that someone would heed some of my comments as they were meant for all the right reasons.

Regardless of what the PGA and TNT say, broadcasting the event on a slight time delay, during the workday (in the eastern time zone) is NOT “prime time.” If the impetus is to showcase Bermuda, why not show it off when your target viewership is home to see it ?

Another point that I made was to ask TNT why they do not use locals to augment the colour commentary and course analysis? All too often misinformation was unwittingly imparted and that diminishes a nice event that could be even better.

I’m surprised that both the PGA and Bermuda’s Department of Tourism would not want to do their very best to showcase this event and venue.

Congratulations to Bermuda, now let’s make a good broadcast even better.
