Carlos Sainz Jr. Scores First Double-Eagle in Chile Classic History on Web.com Tour

Carlos Sainz Jr. is a 28-year-old rookie on the Web.com Tour, but he will be remembered forever in the Chile Classic record book for holing the first double-eagle in tournament history.

Sainz competed last year on the Canadian Tour and earned a spot on the 2014 Web.com Tour.

He found himself 250 yards away from the green at the par-5 ninth hole at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santago, Chile and struck a perfect fairway-wood that found the bottom of the cup.

"I was just hoping to knock it somewhere on the green for a chance at an eagle. From 250 yards out, that's really all you can hope for," said Sainz. "I really didn't realize it went in until I got up on the green."

The Chile Classic is the second leg of the South America Swing on the Web.com Tour. The tour will next travel to Sao Paulo for the Brazil Champions and then on to Panama City for the Panama Claro Championship, before they hit Louisiana at the end of March.

Sainz is six-under par T-20 after the first two rounds and seven shots behind the leader.

Byron Smith leads the Chile Classic at 13-under par through 36 holes, after rounds of 65-66. He posted three top-10 finishes on the 2013 Web.com Tour, but is seeking his first win.
