Champions Tour Season Ends With Charles Schwab Championship at Harding Park

The Champions Tour will wind up its season this week at Harding Park in San Francisco. Only the top-30 on the points list are invited to the Charles Schwab Championship, the final event of the Champions Tour season.

Bernhard Langer has been trying to catch Charles Schwab Cup points leader, Kenny Perry for over three months. Perry put an exclamation point to the season with his win over Langer in a playoff last week in the AT&T Championship in San Antonio.

Perry won consecutive major titles this year with wins at the Senior Players in June and the U.S. Senior Open in July. They were the first two major titles of his career. The double Charles Schwab Cup points received for the major wins gave him a huge lead in the Charles Schwab Cup race.

Langer has posted 11 top-10 finishes in his last 12 starts on the Champions Tour. He came very close to catching Perry last week, but his loss in the playoff moved him over 600 points away from the leader.

$440,000 goes to the winner this week and with double points again on the table the winner will receive 880 Charles Schwab Cup points. The Charles Schwab Championship is a 72-hole, no-cut event and Perry just needs to finish the event to collect the Charles Schwab Cup and the $1 million bonus.

David Frost, Duffy Waldorf and Fred Couples round out the top-five spots and all are in line for a large Christmas bonus.

Steve Elkington was the last man in at No. 30. He finished the season with four top-10 finishes, did not miss a cut in 22 starts and earned $499,000.

Harding Park is one of the most historic golf courses in the San Francisco area. It is owned by the city and through an agreement with the PGA Tour is one of its TPC managed properties.

The course is surrounded by Lake Merced and offers outstanding views of the city. Harding Park was opened in 1925 and underwent a complete renovation in 2002.

It hosted the 2005 WGC American Express Championship won by Tiger Woods. The 2010 Presidents Cup was also held at Harding Park with the U.S. team getting the win over the Internationals.

Harding Park will offer a perfect venue to host the elite of the Champions Tour in the season ending Charles Schwab Championship.

It can be viewed all four days, Thursday-Sunday, October 31-November 3, on the Golf Channel 4:00-7:30 PM ET.
