Champions Tour Visits Pittsburgh for Constellation Senior Players

The Champions Tour will stop in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for its third major of the year. It will be held at the Fox Chapel Golf Club for the second consecutive year.

Joe Daley is the defending champion. He bested the field last year with a total score of 266, 14-under par and collected $405,000 for the win.

The Senior Players offers a total purse of $2.7 million and the Charles Schwab Cup points are doubled for this event.

This is a critical stretch of tournaments for the Champions Tour. The Senior Players Championship is the first of three consecutive majors tournaments. Players looking to make a move up the Charles Schwab Cup rankings will need high finishes at Fox Chapel this week, the U.S. Senior Open in two weeks and at the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, July 25-28.

The Senior Players Championship dates back to 1983 when the inaugural tournament was won by Miller Barber at the Canterbury Golf Club near Cleveland, Ohio.

Jack Nicklaus, Raymond Floyd and Fred Couples are the only three golfers to have won both the Players Championship on the PGA Tour and the Senior Players.

Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Billy Casper and Mark O’Meara are also former winners of this prestigious event.

Newly inducted World Golf Hall of Fame member, Colin Montgomerie will make his first Champions Tour start this week in the Senior Players Championship. Can Monty break through for his first professional win on American soil and also get a major title to add to his bust at St. Augustine?

Fox Chapel Golf Club first opened in 1925 and was designed by famed golf architect, Seth Raynor. It is ranked among the Top 100 classic golf courses in the United States.

This classic old layout offers a unique challenge for the Champions Tour and provides a wonderful back drop for the Senior Players Championship.

The Constellation Senior Players Championship can be viewed live on the Golf Channel, Thursday, June 27, Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29, 12:30-2:30 PM ET. The final round will air on the Golf Channel Sunday, June 30, 1:30-5:30 PM ET.
