Champions Tour Wraps Up Regular Season With AT&T Championship

The Champions Tour will hold the last tournament of its regular season this week at the 6,920 yard, Par-72 TPC San Antonio Golf Club.

Kenny Perry is the defending champion. Last year on the strength of his two major championships and win at the AT&T Championship, Perry slipped past Bernhard Langer and won the Charles Schwab Cup.

Langer is the man in the driver’s seat this year. He has 16 top-10 finishes in his 19 starts including five wins, four runners-up and three third-place finishes.

Langer has a 771 point lead in the Charles Schwab Cup over Colin Montgomerie with just this tournament and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship remaining.

Montgomerie won the Senior PGA Championship and the Senior U.S. Open earlier this season. He added 10 top-10 finishes in his 16 starts on the Champions Tour this year.

Only the Top 30 on the Charles Schwab Cup points list are invited to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship next week at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

While Langer and Montgomerie battle for the $1 million bonus for winning the Charles Schwab Cup, several players are just trying to gain entry into the field next week for a much smaller piece of the bonus pool.

Mark O’Meara will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame next July, but he is the man on the bubble this week currently at No. 30 on the points list.

Just outside and looking to move up:

No. 31 Duffy Waldorf

No. 32 Rocco Mediate

No. 33 Miguel Angel Jimenez

No. 34 Mark McNulty

Pete Dye with the aid of Bruce Leitzke designed TPC San Antonio and it opened for play in 2010.

The field includes 81 players in the no-cut 54-hole tournament. The total purse is $1.95 million with $292,500 going to the winner.

Golf Channel will broadcast all three rounds live 4:00-6:00 PM ET Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
