A wide range of topics from around the world of golf were covered on Tuesday, November 18, on the Back 9 Report.
Chrisitina Kim accomplished one of the “feel-good” stories on the LPGA Tour last week with her win at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico.
Kim has been very public with her mental health struggles, she even admitted to considering suicide at one point in her life. For her to return to the LPGA Tour and win is an amazing story of courage and triumph.
She has been to the edge and comeback stronger.
Charles Sifford experienced death threats and racial abuse throughout this golfing career. Just like Jackie Robinson in Major League baseball, Sifford broke the color barrier in professional golf and opened the country club gates for diverse ethnicities to compete on the PGA Tour today.
For his courage, Sifford will become only the third professional golfer ever awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 24.
Tiger Woods has taken umbrage at a satirical article posted by Hall of Famer Dan Jenkins Golf Digest and has responded with a tirade on Derek Jeter’s website “A Player’s Tribune.”
Woods feels Jenkins portrayal is unfair and inaccurate and is exercising his right of Free Speech.
Woods’ advisors might want to remind him that calling out one of the best sports writers of our time may not be a wise course of action.
Kraig Kann took time from his busy schedule to talk with Back 9 Report and covered a multitude of topics confronting the LPGA Tour.
The tour also announced a new sponsor for the old Kraft Nabisco Championship. All Nippon Airlines will be the title sponsor for the “ANA Inspiration,” which will be held in March and continue to be hosted by Mission Hills in Palm Springs.
Carlos and Fred also discussed Brooks Koepka’s recent win in the Turkish Airlines Open and his ascent into the Top 50 on the Official World Golf Rankings via traveling the world on the European Tour.
