Cox Classic Decides Fate for Future PGA Tour Professionals

The Web.com Tour is holding its final regular season event of the year at the Cox Classic in Omaha, Nebraska this week.

Shiny new PGA Tour cards will be issued to the Top 25 on the Web.com money list Sunday evening after the tournament concludes.

Web.com players have been competing all year for this opportunity. Life-long dreams are about to be realized as these newly minted PGA Tour professionals will compete on the best courses against the best players in the world beginning with the Frys.com Open, October 10-13.

The PGA Tour begins its first year of the wrap-around season this fall. The 2014 PGA Tour season will start the week following the Presidents Cup at the Frys.com.

Six events will be played in 2013 that award FedEx Cup points and prize money to the 2014 season. These tournaments will allow some of the newer PGA Tour members a chance to get a head start on the bigger names who will probably forego playing in the fall events.

After the Frys.com the PGA Tour will move to Las Vegas for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, October 17-20. The tour next goes international with the CIMB Classic in Malaysia and the WGC-HSBC in Shanghai, China before returning to the United States for the McGladery Classic in Sea Island, Georgia. The final full-field event will be held at the OHL Classic at Mayacoba, Mexico, November 14-17.

With two wins each this year, Michael Putnam and Ben Martin hold the top two spots on the Web.com money list. The No. 1 player on the Web.com money list after the Cox Classic this week will receive an exemption into the 2014 Players Championship.

Players on the bubble at the bottom of the list include:
     No. 20       Kevin Foley
     No. 21       Andrew Swoboda
     No. 22       Steven Alker
     No. 23       Ashley Hall
     No. 24       Matthew Goggin
     No. 25       Patrick Cantlay
     No. 26       Wes Roach
     No. 27       Wee Kim
     No. 28       Scott Parel
     No. 29       Miguel Angel Carballo
     No. 30       Chad Collins

These 25 tour cards awarded this week reward the Web.com players that have toiled all year on the Web.com.

Twenty-five additional tour cards will be awarded to the top-25 finishers following the Web.com Tour Finals.

PGA Tour players Nos. 126-200 in the FedEx Cup rankings, who missed the opportunity to play in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, will join the top-75 money winners from the Web.com Tour in the new Web.com Tour Finals.

The Web.com Tour Finals replaces the PGA Tour Q-School. It includes; the Hotel Fitness Champsionship, the Chiquita Classic, the Nationwide Childrens Hospitals Championship and the Web.com Tour Championship.

Rather than prospective PGA Tour hopefuls grinding out six treacherous rounds in Q-School, these four events that comprise the Web.com Tour Finals will identify the 25 players worthy of the golden ticket to the big tour.

Some familiar names are eligible to play in the Web.com Tour Finals. Trevor Immelman, Ricky Barnes, Bud Cauley and Mike Weir have all committed to play in the Web.com Tour Finals.

The playoffs begin now at the Cox Classic for future PGA Tour hopefuls and PGA Tour veterans trying to keep their jobs for next year.
