David Frost Wins on the Champions Tour at the Toshiba Classic

South African David Frost picked up his first win of 2013 at the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, California.

Frost shot 63-66-65 over three rounds at the Newport Beach Country Club and beat runner-up Fred Couples by five shots.

This gives Frost four top-10 finishes in his four Champions Tour starts this year and moves him into first place in the Charles Schwab Cup Race.

He finished runner-up losing to John Cook in a playoff at the first event of the year in Hawaii, the Mitsubishi Electric Championship. He finished T-9 at the Allianz and T-5 at the ACE Group Classic, both held in Florida.

His first place check of $262,500 gives him $564,500 for the year and places him ahead of Bernhard Langer and John Cook at the top of the Champions Tour money list.

Frost had 29 professional wins over his 28-year career. Ten of his wins came on the PGA Tour. Although he never broke through for a major win he had multiple top-10 finishes in the majors.

He won twice on the Champions Tour in 2012 and had nine top-10 finishes. He earned a little over $1 million last year in 24 events. This was his fourth win on the Champions Tour and he has earned over $4 million.

Frost has been a solid performer throughout his entire career. The shorter Champions Tour golf courses allow his expertise around the greens to become more of a factor. He has always possessed a marvelous wedge game and is an excellent putter.

He is serving notice to the other Champions Tour players that he is someone to be reckoned with for competition in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup Race.
