Chesson Hadley, Peter Uihlein, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth are four of the best young players in golf and are in the field this week at the Valero Texas Open.
Hadley and Spieth both have wins on the PGA Tour and have secured their playing privileges for the next few years. Koepka and Uihlein are members of the European Tour trying to make it to the U.S. tour.
Three more golfers that can be added to the best young golfers on tour are, Russell Henley, Patrick Reed and Matt Every.
Henley collected his second tour win at the Honda Classic, Patrick Reed won his third tournament in seven months at the WGC-Cadillac and Every won the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week,
Reed and Every were scheduled to play in San Antonio, but withdrew on Tuesday and Henley is taking the week off.
Chesson Hadley is 26 years old and played his college golf at Georgia Tech. He joined the Web.com Tour in 2013 and promptly won twice, finishing third in the Web.com money list to earn his 2014 PGA Tour card.
He missed six cuts in the first nine events, but his win at the Puerto Rico Open earned him $630,000 and a two year exemption.
Hadley has moved up to No. 56 in the world rankings and is No. 24 in the FedEx Cup standings.
Peter Uihlein is just 24 years old and won the 2013 Madeira Islands Open on the European Tour. He had five top-10 finishes in Europe, earned €1.3 million and finished No 14 in the Race to Dubai last year.
He has missed two cuts in four starts thus far on the 2014 PGA Tour and will be making his fifth start at the Valero Texas Open.
Uihlein has earned $121,000 this season and needs $680,000 more in his next two starts to earn additional sponsor’s exemptions.
He is ranked No. 72 on the Official World Golf Rankings and can always go back to Europe to improve his world ranking and qualify for the majors and WGC events.
Brooks Koepka is ranked No. 75 in the world and is using his last 2014 sponsor’s exemption this week in San Antonio. He has made four cuts with one top-10 finish and earned $358,000.
Like Uihlein, he found success in Europe. He won three titles on the 2013 Challenge Tour and has earned over €330,000 on the European Tour.
The pressure is definitely on, he will need a top-five finish this week to earn enough to allow him to play more in the U.S.
Everyone knows about 20-year-old Jordan Spieth. He was 2013 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, won the John Deere Classic and was named a Captain’s pick to the 2013 Presidents Cup team.
He has had a solid year with only one missed cut, three top-10 finishes in nine starts and earned $1.66 million.
He is No. 13 in the FedEx Cup race and No. 13 in the world.
Spieth is a Texan and he would love to get his second PGA Tour win in his home state this week.
These seven young players are definitely worth watching and the four that are in the field this week at the Valero Texas Open could finish near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.
