February is nearly over and March brings us closer to the end of the cold winter months in the north. With warmer weather our minds begin to envision green verdant fairways and beautiful enticing golf courses.
This winter, in particular, has been very difficult for golfers in the snow-belt to even swing a golf club let alone get onto a golf course.
The majority of exercise most snow-bound golfers get this time of year is running back and forth to the kitchen or refrigerator for another snack or cold beverage.
Lack of exercise especially stretching has a very negative affect on a golf game. As we age our muscles become tight and lose flexibility.
“You gotta use it or lose it.”
A good golf swing requires free turning of the hips, torso and shoulders. Sitting on the couch watching football and basketball tends to stiffen muscles and restrict flexibility.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t become a better golfer simply by osmosis watching golf and other sports on television.
Merely watching Miguel Angel Jimenez perform his unique stretching routine on youtube.com doesn’t help you unless you actually get up and join in.
March is the perfect time to begin a stretching routine that will help you improve your golf game and hopefully avoid injury when you finally hit the first tee.
With the help of Matt Schultz from Heartland Rehabilitation in Maumee, Ohio, we have created a video that will give you some easy stretching and flexibility exercises that you can do right in your own home.

Get up off the couch and get back into an exercise routine that will increase your flexibility and be in better shape when you are finally able to find a golf course not covered in snow.
Flexibility is the key to better golf and proper stretching exercises will help improve your flexibility and your golf game.
