Japanese Golfer Kohki Idoki Wins The Senior PGA Championship

Kohki Idoki is a little known professional golfer from Japan, but was "okey dokey" in St. Louis this week. Idoki won the Senior PGA Championship, a Champions Tour major, in his first professional event played in the United States.

He has played his whole career on the Japan Golf Tour and only has two career wins. His last win came in 1993 at the NST Niigata Open.

Idoki fired a final round 65 and got the trophy, but Kenny Perry had it in his grasp and fumbled it away.

Perry started the day with three birdies in his first five holes and had a commanding lead in the tournament. Four bogeys over his next 12 holes became his undoing. He did recover for a birdie at the last hole but the damage was done and Idoki won the big check.

Jay Haas finished tied with Perry for second place. He posted a final round one-under par 70 and finished at nine-under par for the tournament, two shots behind the winner.

Mark O’Meara had a strong week finishing in fourth place. Another Japanese player Kiyoshi Murota was fifth.

Charles Schwab Cup points leader Bernhard Langer posted an uncharacteristic 79 in the first round. He recovered to shoot three rounds of 67 and finished T-13 for the championship.

The 74th Senior PGA Championship was played at historic Bellerive Golf Club just outside of St. Louis.

The Champions Tour next moves up the road to Des Moines, Iowa for the Principal Charity Classic held on the Wakonda Club.
