Johnny Miller is 67 years old and more famous for his golf analyst gig on NBC, than the 25 PGA Tour victories or two major championship titles, he collected in his Hall-of-Fame career.
Miller’s competitive days have been over for several years and he last played in the PNC Father/Son Challenge in 2006. His last win on the PGA Tour came 20 years ago at Pebble Beach in 1994.
This year’s PNC Father/Son Challenge will be held December 11-14 at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando, Florida and Johnny will be in the field with his son, Andy. He agreed to enter because his son has been begging him to play in the event.
Miller has no illusions about winning the tournament,
“We will play hard, but this will be more to have an enjoyable, relaxing weekend. He is going to have to do most of the work off the tee. I still hit my irons pretty good and I’m putting better. It’ll be a nice combination. The bottom line is it will be a good time to be with Andy and spend some days with him. It will be a lot of fun.”
The Father/Son Challenge was held from 1995-2008, but went on hiatus when it lost its sponsor. PNC Financial Services Group became the title sponsor in 2012 and the event has been gaining momentum as a feel-good tournament just prior to the holidays.
Golf Channel will air the PNC Father/Son Challenge, 2:00-3:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, December 13 & 14. NBC will air three hours of the tournament both days from 3:00-6:00 PM.
