LPGA Tour in Great Northwest for Portland Classic Presented by Cambia Health Solutions

The LPGA Tour heads to Oregon this week for the Portland Classic presented by Cambia Health Solutions. The tour has visited the “City of Roses” for 43 years and Suzann Pettersen will defend her title.

So Yeon Ryu will be trying for consecutive victories after her win last week at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. It was Ryu’s first win since the 2012 Marathon Classic.

Marissa Steen is in the field this week for her first official start as an LPGA Tour member. She won three titles on the Symetra Tour to earn a promotion to the big show.

Steen had played in two LPGA Tour events previously, but had to qualify to get in. She is enjoying having a spot in the field without going through a grueling qualifier.

Ladies European Tour teen-age sensation Charley Hull is playing in Portland on a sponsor’s exemption. This is her fifth start on the LPGA Tour and with $193,886 in earnings this season ranks No. 44 on the money list. A good finish this week would move her into the top-40 and an automatic LPGA Tour card for next season.

Hull also qualifies for the Evian Championship based on her Rolex Ranking and could solidify her 2015 LPGA Tour status in France.

The field of 135 women will be vying for a piece of the $1.3 million purse and the $195,500 first-place check.

The LPGA Tour next moves to France for their last major championship of the year at the Evian Championship, September 11-14.
