Mark Wiebe picked up his second win of the 2013 Champions Tour season at the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship.
He finished the regulation 54-hole tournament tied with Corey Pavin who turned in a final round three-under par 69.
Wiebe had held the lead after the first two rounds. He posted an eight-under par 64 on Friday and followed with a three-under par 69 on Saturday.
The 56-year-old Wiebe won twice on the PGA Tour and now has five wins on the Champions Tour. His other win this year came at the Senior British Open Championship in July.
Wiebe is gaining a reputation as a gritty playoff competitor. This was his third playoff on the Champions Tour and he is a perfect 3-0.
Heavy winds buffeted the Kapolei Golf Course on Sunday and made play difficult. Wiebe made four birdies during his round, but also added four bogeys.
Pavin was the model of consistency all week with 68-68-69. His round included three birdies and no bogeys on Sunday.
Pavin took Wiebe to the second extra hole before making his first bogey of the day. Wiebe was forced to make a 20-foot par putt on the last playoff hole to win the $270,000 first-place check.
The win moves Wiebe up six spots in the Charles Schwab Cup standings to No. 13. Pavin goes from No. 8 to No. 6 in the season long competition for the $1 million bonus.
Bernhard Langer solidified his hold on the second spot in the Charles Schwab Cup with a third-place finish in Hawaii. Bogeys at No. 11 and 16 on the back nine on Sunday left him at ten-under par and one shot out of the playoff with Wiebe and Pavin.
Esteban Toledo turned in the best round of the day with a six-under 66 to tie for fourth with John Cook at nine-under par.
Fred Couples, Kirk Triplett, David Frost, Gene Sauers and Brian Henninger finished one more shot back at eight-under par and tied for sixth.
Vijay Singh made his maiden appearance on the Champions Tour and was among the leaders on Sunday until a very untidy double-bogey at No. 13 followed by bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18 left him with the big group at eight-under par.
The senior circuit heads back to California for the Natures Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach this week.
