Michael Whan Announces New Sponsor for International Crown

LPGA Tour Commissioner, Michael Whan announced on Monday that Underwriters Laboratories (UL) would become the title sponsor for the International Crown in 2016 and 2018.

The first International Crown, featuring teams made up of the four best women golfers from each of eight top-ranked countries in the world, was held at Caves Valley Golf Club near Baltimore, Maryland, last July. The team from Spain comprised of Beatriz Recari, Azahara Munoz, Carlota Cigunda and Belen Mozo beat the heavily favored U.S. and Korean teams for the victory.

UL served as an Ambassador Sponsor at the inaugural tournament, was impressed with the international team event and decided to become the main sponsor.

“We at UL are very proud to extend our involvement with this one-of-a-kind international tournament in women’s golf,” said UL CEO Keith Williams. “UL is a safety science company protecting people, products and places for more than a century. UL’s long-established history of championing innovation and the LPGA’s rooted history in advancing leadership and competition makes us unique partners of global excellence.”

The 2016 UL International Crown will be held in September at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois and the 2018 event will be held in the Republic of Korea.

The International Crown brings a Ryder Cup-like atmosphere to the women’s game and it along with the Solheim Cup brings new fans to the women’s game from around the world.
