Miguel Angel Jimenez Debuts on Champions Tour in Atlanta

Bernhard Langer leads the Charles Schwab Cup and is the defending champion at the Gwinnett Championship this week at TPC Sugarloaf, but all eyes will be on the ‘Most Interesting Man in Golf,’ Miguel Angel Jimenez as he makes his Champions Tour debut this week.

Jimenez is coming off a fantastic week at the Masters, where he finished solo fourth at four-under par. His 71-76-66-71 left him just four shots behind the winner, Bubba Watson and he earned $432,000.

Just like his beloved red wine, he gets better with age.

Jimenez, turned 50 in January, but has won the last two consecutive Hong Kong Opens on the European Tour. He is ranked No 8 on the Race to Dubai and No. 32 in the world.

Langer also fared well at Augusta last week with a T-8 finish.

In addition to Langer and Jimenez, Fred Couples, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Brad Faxon and John Cook are in the field this week.

Couples made the cut and had a strong showing at the Masters last week. He was among the leaders after 54 holes at one-under par, but a final round three-over par 75 dropped him to T-20.

Former Masters Champion Sandy Lyle also made the cut at Augusta and finished T-44.

TPC Sugarloaf will play to par 72 at 7,200 yards. It was designed by Greg Norman and opened for play in 1997.

The total purse available for the 81-man field is $1.8 million with $270,000 to the winner.

Joel Edwards, Marco Dawson, Jeff LeMaster, Trevor Dodds and P.H. Horgan Monday qualified and will be in the field at the Gwinnett Championship.

Jim Thorpe and Scott Hoch withdrew with Willie Wood and Gary Hallberg being the first alternates.
