The 15th annual Northwestern Mutual World Challenge will be held this week at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. The tournament has had various sponsors over the years and has donated more than $25 million to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
The elite 18-man field includes 10 major champions and three past tournament winners . The host, Tiger Woods has won this event on five different occasions and Jim Furyk won here in 2009.
In addition to winning the World Challenge last year, Graeme McDowell also won in 2010 and was third in 2009 his only other appearance.
PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, Jordan Spieth is making his first appearance at the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge. Spieth won the John Deere Classic, finished runner-up three times, earned over $3 million and was a captain's pick for the U.S. Presidents Cup team.
Spieth will be joined by nine other teammates from the U.S. Presidents Cup team in the field this week.
Jason Day is in the field and was on the International team at Muirfield Village in October for the Presidents Cup. He is coming off a win two weeks ago at the World Cup held at Royal Melbourne.
Top Europeans in the field include, McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter, who have all been members of several European Ryder Cup teams.
McIlroy has struggled in 2013, but just collected his first win of the year at the Australian Open.
Tournament officials announced this week that the tournament will be moving from California to Florida next year and will be held at Isleworth Golf and Country Club beginning in 2014.
The Tiger Woods Foundation has always been the main beneficiary of the proceeds, but next year the Tavistock Foundation will also receive funds from the tournament.
