Paul Casey Fires 27 On Back Nine in HP Byron Nelson Championship

After a so-so front nine, one-over par 36 that included three bogeys and one eagle, Paul Casey blitzed the back nine at TPC Four Seasons Resort for an eight-under par 27. He moved 66 spots up the leaderboard to tie for second after 36 holes.

His back nine included six birdies and one eagle along with two pars. He and his caddie knew they were having a good round, but didn’t realize their score was that low.

He didn’t quite get the record however, Corey Pavin fired a 26 on the front nine in the 2006 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

He did become one of only eight players that have posted a 27 for nine holes on the PGA Tour.

Casey from England turned professional in 2001 and was one of the top-ranked players in the world earlier in his career. In 2009 he won two titles on the European Tour, as well as, the Shell Houston Open on the PGA Tour and reached No. 3 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

He has 12 wins on the European Tour and has been a member of three Ryder Cup teams in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Injuries have hampered his play since 2009, but Friday at the HP Byron Nelson he proved that at the age of 36 years old, he still has a ton of game left.

Brendon Todd holds a two-shot lead after 36 holes at the HP Byron Nelson at eight-under par. He posted a 68 in the first round and followed with a solid six-under par 64 in the second round.

Todd has one career win on the Web.com Tour, but has bounced back and forth between the Web.com and PGA Tours, since becoming a professional in 2008.

He has finished T-6 twice this year at the Humana and the Valero Texas Open.

At No. 51 in the FedEx Cup rankings, a good finish this week at the HP Byron Nelson would secure his card for next year and assure him a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs at the end of the season.
