Paul Casey Wins Irish Open at Carton House in Kildare

Paul Casey won the 2013 Irish Open at Carton House in Kildare, Ireland by three strokes over runner-up Robert Rock.

This was Casey’s 12th European Tour title. His last win came nearly two and a half years ago in January 2011, at the Volvo Golf Champions.

He turned in the low round of the day on Sunday on the Montgomerie Course at Carton House. High winds swept over the course and made playing conditions very difficult.

Casey turned professional in 2000 and has been a member of the European Tour since 2001. He had a very good collegiate career at Arizona State and won three consecutive Pac-10 Championships (1998-2000).

He has had a brilliant professional career reaching as high as third on the Official World Golf Rankings in 2009. Various injuries have interrupted his performance over the years, but he is still a threat to win every time he tees it up.

Casey is currently No. 102 in the world rankings and No. 27 on the Race to Dubai. He has 75 top-10 finishes in 235 starts on the European Tour and has earned a total of €15 million.

In addition, he has one win on the PGA Tour at the 2009 Shell Houston Open. He has 24 top-10 finishes in America and has won nearly $10 million.

Robert Rock has two European Tour wins. He took home trophies at the 2011 BMW Italian Open and he bested Rory McIlroy in the 2012 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Rock also had a runner-up finish in the 2009 Irish Open losing on the third playoff hole to Shane Lowry, who was still an amateur.

Joost Luiten, who won earlier in June at the Lyoness Open, finished tied with Rock for runner-up at 11-under par. He was among the leaders heading into the final round, but shot 74 in the windy conditions.

Pablo Larrazabal from Spain finished alone in fourth place at nine-under par.

Shane Lowry, Gareth Shaw, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Jose Maria Olazabal and Alvaro Quiros finished tied for fifth place at eight-under par.
