Peter Jacobsen has been around professional golf for over 37 years. He attended Oregon University and won the 1976 Oregon Amateur before becoming a professional.
He won seven PGA Tour events along with two titles on the Champions Tour. Jacobsen was a very talented golfer, but a variety of injuries throughout his playing career limited his play and practice schedule.
Jacobsen has a gregarious personality and always seems to be in a good mood. He enjoys the humor in every situation and adds the giggle factor to golf.
In the 1980’s he was a member of “Jake Trout & the Flounders” band. The band included other professional golfers, Mark Lye, Larry Rinker and Payne Stewart.
He co-hosted a television show on Golf Channel that featured interviews and humorous skits with Matt “Sign Boy” Griesser.
He owns a management company that has run several professional golf tournaments.
He even did a stint in Hollywood and appeared in the Kevin Kostner movie “Tin Cup”.
Jake has always understood the relationship of corporate America and golf. Golf needs the infusion of capital Fortune 500 Companies give to professional golf.
He also understands the relationship that professional golfers must maintain with their fans.
Jacobsen is the consummate storyteller and has even co-authored two books “Buried Lies” and “Embedded Balls”.
With all of these off-course activities, he still finds time to be a member of the NBC golf broadcast team.
The Payne Stewart Award is given to a player who shows respect for the traditions of the game, commitment to uphold the game’s heritage of charitable support and meticulous presentation of himself and his sport through dress and conduct.
Past winners include: Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw and Gary Player.
Jacobsen has been an outstanding spokesman for golf throughout his career and spends countless hours promoting the game around the world.
