PGA Tour: Field Set For Tour Championship

With Billy Horschel winning the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, the Top 30 has been identified for the Tour Championship.

The 2014 PGA Tour season started in October, 2013 and will come to a close next week at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta. After 41 regular season tournaments, plus three playoff events only 29 players are left to compete for the $10 million FedEx Cup.

Even though Dustin Johnson did not take a single swing in the FedEx Cup playoffs due to a leave of absence from the tour, he will earn $175,000 from the FedEx Cup bonus pool for finishing No. 30 in the season-long standings.

Substitutions are not allowed, so No. 31, Stuart Appleby can take a break and get ready for the 2015 fall wrap-around season that begins with the Frys.com Open, October, 9.

The Top Five in the FedEx Cup standings are assured the FedEx Cup if they win next week in Atlanta.

Chris Kirk entered the playoffs ranked No. 10. A T-53 at The Barclays, plus a T-16 last week at the BMW Championship along with his win at the Deutsche Bank Championship puts him atop the FedEx Cup points list heading to  the Tour Championship.

He will need to finish higher than, Billy Horshcel, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy and Hunter Mahan, who round out the Top Five.

The FedEx Cup winner gets the $10 million, but no one in the tournament will go hungry. Last place is guaranteed $128,000 plus $180,000 from the bonus pool.
