The PGA Tour will play its final event of the 2014-15 wrap-around schedule this week in Mexico at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Harris English won his second tour title in five months at this tournament last year, but struggled through the 2014 campaign. He missed 10 cuts in his last 18 starts, which was very uncommon for the normally consistent English.
He will be looking to revive some of those good feelings this week and get his year off to a good start with a high finish.
The total purse this week is $6.1 million, with $1.09 million, plus 500 FedEx Cup points going to the winner.
The field at the OHL Classic does not have the star power of a normal PGA Tour stop, but lesser-known and tour rookies get a chance to earn valuable FedEx Cup points.
Veterans in the field this week, looking to rebound after a poor 2014 season and kick-start 2015 include, Davis Love, Scott Verplank, Padraig Harrington, Justin Leonard and Charles Howell III.
Camilo Villegas and his brother Manuel are just one of two brother acts at Mayakoba, Michael and Andrew Putnam will also play in Mexico.
Trying to replicate Jimmy Walker’s multiple-win season last year, Ben Martin, Robert Streb and Nick Taylor will vie for their second wins of the wrap-around schedule.
Martin won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, Streb won the McGladrey Classic and Taylor won last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
The OHL Classic is played on the El Camaleon golf course in Playa de Carmen and will be televised in primetime on the Golf Channel , 7:30-10:30 PM ET Thrusday-Sunday, 11/13-16.
