The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic was possibly held for the final time last week.
It has been held on the Magnolia and Palm golf courses at Disney World and has been the final event in the PGA Tour’s season for many years.
It was one of the four events that comprised the “Fall Series” and featured a $4.7 million total purse.
The tournament has been a favorite for the players and their families. While dad toiled away at the golf course, mom and the kids explored the family friendly Disney complex. It also provided a home game for the large number of PGA Tour pros that reside in the Orlando area.
Jack Nicklaus won the event three consecutive years from 1971-1973 and Tiger Woods won it twice. Other big name winners over its 40 year history include; Payne Stewart, Lanny Wadkins and Raymond Floyd.
Beginning in 2013 the Fall Series events will earn FedEx Cup points and must offer a total purse of $6 million.
The price tag was just too steep for the current sponsors of the tournament and as of now the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic is not on the 2013 schedule.
The PGA Tour and tournament directors are actively seeking a White Knight to ride in with a bucket full of money to save Minnie and Mickey to preserve the tradition of holding a tournament at the Magic Kingdom.
So if you are sitting around with several million dollars that you would like to give to a good cause get in touch with the PGA Tour right away.
