European Tour Veteran Richard Sterne posted a final round 64 and earned his sixth career victory at the Joburg Open.  It is the second time he has won this event.  He also won the Joburg in 2008.

Sterne, from South Africa, joined the European Tour in 2000, has made over 135 cuts and earned over €5 million.

His best year on tour was 2007 when he posted seven Top-10’s and won €1.1 million for the year.

Thus far in 2013 Sterne was T-7 in the Alfred Dunhill, runner-up in the Omega Dubai, and now collects the win in the Joburg Open.

He takes over the first spot in the Race to Dubai and this win will move Sterne near the Top-50 on the Official World Golf Championship which will get him into the lucrative World Golf Championships.

Sterne bested another South African Charl Schwartzel, who has been one of the hottest golfers in the world, fired a final round 66, but still finished a distant seven shots back of Sterne.

Schwartzel is also a two-time winner of this event, he won the Joburg Open in 2010 and 2011.

In two starts on the 2013 European Tour Schwartzel has a win and a runner-up.  He won the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December in South Africa.

He is No. 18 in the world and No. 3 in the Race to Dubai.

Another South African George Coetzee finished T-3 and is off to a great start in 2013.

The European Tour will stay in South Africa for the Africa Open next week at East London Golf Club in East Cape, South Africa.
