Robert Streb Outlasts Brendon De Jonge and Will MacKenzie to Win McGladrey Classic

Robert Streb posted a final-round seven-under-par 63 at the McGladrey Classic to move up 11 spots and finish tied for first with Brendon de Jonge and Will MacKenzie.

After a bogey and five birdies on the front nine, Streb bogeyed No. 13, but strung together four consecutive birdies at Nos. 13-17 to post the low round.

MacKenzie and Andrew Svoboda jointly held the 54-hole lead, but Svoboda struggled on Sunday with a one-over-par 71 to finish T-8.

MacKenzie was two-under-par on his front nine, but could only manage even-par on the back for a two-under-par 68 that got him into the playoff.

De Jonge started hot with birdies at Nos. 1-3. He added two more birdies on the back nine and his five-under-par 65 put him in the playoff with MacKenzie and Streb.

MacKenzie found a green-side bunker at the first playoff hole, failed to get up and down for par and became the first casualty of the playoff.

MacKenzie has two PGA Tour career wins, his last came in 2008 at the Viking Classic. He is now 1-1 in playoffs on tour.

De Jonge matched Streb’s par at the first playoff hole, but Streb made a birdie two at the par-3 No. 17 for the win.

This is Streb’s third year on the PGA Tour and his first win. He did make 17 cuts in 21 starts last season and finished No. 71 in the FedEx Cup.

The win will make his life much easier for the rest of this year, plus the 2015-16 season. He will have a two-year tour exemption and gains entry to the Masters, PGA and the Players Championships.
