Rory McIlroy & Caroline Wozniacki Rumored Splitsville

The Independent.ie is reporting a rumored break-up of professional golfer Rory McIlroy and tennis professional Caroline Wozniacki is a fact. Well on Twitter anyway.

Apparently McIlroy and Wozniacki have removed each other from their profile pictures on the popular social networking site. What could be more telling than removal of that someone special from one’s profile picture?

Another sure sign is the lack of tweets between the couple. McIlroy has not sent her a tweet in August. His last tweet to her was a birthday wish on July 11 and she last tweeted him on August 11.

No official statement has been made by either Wozniacki or McIlroy, however.

McIllroy and Wozniacki have been a couple since 2011 and darlings of the media. The globe trotting couple could be followed on Twitter as they continuously posted amorous messages and pictures of each other.

McIlroy was No. 1 in the world at the beginning of their relationship and has fallen to No. 3 behind Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Although he has five top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this year, he has not won. He has missed cuts on the European Tour and is No. 49 in the FedEx Cup standings. His 2013 has been less than acceptable.

McIlroy won major titles in both 2011 and 2012, but did not perform well in the majors this year. He finished T-25 at the Masters, T-41 in the U.S. Open and missed the cut at the Open Championship. He did collect a top-10 finish at the PGA Championship as the defending champion.

McIlroy changed his equipment at the beginning of the year when he signed a huge endorsement deal with Nike. He also changed management companies this year and his focus has not seemed to be entirely on golf.

Wozniacki is one of the top earning female athletes in the world, but has not had a very successful 2013 campaign. She has earned over $1 million this year, but does not have a win on either the Women’s Tennis Association or the International Tennis Association.

She has been battling a foot injury that has hampered her play.

With all the demands on a professional athlete’s time to please sponsors and the travel necessary to play in world class events, it would appear very difficult to maintain a relationship.

Irish Central reported that the couple has been fighting like cats and dogs and their split has been coming for some time.

So much for true love, if Twitter says so, it must be true.
