Scott Jamieson won the Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa in Durban, South Africa.  It is the first tournament on the European Tour for the 2013 season.

Heavy rains during the week forced tournament officials to cut it to 36 holes and reduce the par to 65 for the final round on Sunday.

Jamieson shot a 57 on Sunday to get into a playoff with Steven Webster and Eduardo de la Riva.  His two pars in the playoff were good enough to best de la Riva who went out after the first hole and Webster who made bogey on the second playoff hole.

The first place check of €118,875 puts him in first place in the Race to Dubai and moves him up to No. 115 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

He is coming off a very good finish at the DP World Tour Championship where he finished T-14 and collected €109,352.  Jamieson has improved his first two years on tour.  He was ranked No. 59 in 2011 and No. 53 in 2012  on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.

Jamieson, from Scotland, is a graduate of golf powerhouse Augusta State University.  He qualified for the European Tour for the 2011 season via the 2010 Challenge Tour.

He has only qualified for one major tournament thus far in his young career.  He missed the cut at the 2011 Open Championship.

Last year we saw Brendan Grace start out the year with wins in South Africa early in the European Tour season and go on to have an outstanding 2012.

Is Scott Jamieson the new rising star on the European Tour for 2013?
