Stacy Lewis won her second title of 2014 at the Shoprite LPGA Classic on Sunday.
More important, however, she regained the No. 1 spot atop the Rolex Rankings.
Lewis earned the top spot last year in March after she won the LPGA Founders Cup, but lost it four weeks later, when Inbee Park began her major winning spree.
Park had been No. 1 for 59 weeks. She had six wins in 2013, including the first three major championships of the year.
Park has not won since the U.S. Women’s Open at Sebonack last June and has not had a good start to the 2014 season.
Lewis reached No. 1 last year, after earning the LPGA Tour Player of the Year award in 2012. She has become the most consistent player, man or woman, in the world.
Since the beginning of 2012, she has 45 top-10 finishes in 64 starts on the LPGA Tour. She has accumulated nine wins, and earned nearly $5 million.
She finished 2013 with 10 consecutive top-10 finishes and has finished inside the top 10 in 10 of her 12 starts this season.
After missing chances to overtake Park over the past few tournaments, Lewis was taking no chances this week. The win was never in doubt and she won by six strokes over Christina Kim.
Lewis will need to keep posting strong finishes as Lydia Ko, Karrie Webb, Lexi Thompson and Suzann Pettersen are not that far behind.
The ladies tour next moves to Ontario for the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic before taking a week respite prior to the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst June 19-22.
