Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum Wins Omega Dubai Ladies Masters

Stacy Lewis held a two-shot lead after 54 holes at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, but Pornanong Phatlum fired a six-under par 66 and beat Lewis by a single stroke.

Phatlum and Lewis had separated themselves from the rest of the field. Carlota Cigunda finished third at seven-under par, eight shots behind the winner.

Phatlum is 24 years old and this was her second win on the Ladies European Tour to go with seven wins on the Ladies Asian Tour.

Her final round 66, included three birdies on the front nine, for a three-under par 32. She posted four birdies and one bogey on her back nine for a three-under par 34.

She played well prior to the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters with a fifth-place finish in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational and a third in the CME Titleholders.

Phatlum, No. 47 in the Rolex Rankings, joined the LPGA Tour in 2009 and her only win came at the 2012 HSBC Brazil Cup. In 2013 Phatlum had seven top-10 finishes and finished No. 23 on the LPGA Tour money list with over $600,000 in earnings.

Lewis made three birdies on her front nine and added another birdie at No. 10 to get to four-under par for the round. She finished the back side with pars, but a lone bogey at the par-3 No. 15 proved to be her undoing. Her final round three-under par 69 was one shot too many to catch Phatlum.

For Lewis, who is No. 3 on the Rolex Rankings, it was just another ho-hum finish. In 26 starts on the LPGA Tour in 2013, she had 20 top-10 finishes and earned $1.9 million.

Diana Luna finished alone in fourth at five-under par. Shanshan Feng, Laura Davies and Louise Larsson tied for fifth at three-under par.

Teenager Charley Hull was T-8 at two-under par.

LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year runner-up Caroline Masson finished No. 13 at even par.
