The World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual will be held this week at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.
This is Tiger Woods personal little clambake and soiree’ for a few invited players only. The field will consist of 18 of the top golfers in the world.
Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Jason Dufner, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Steve Stricker, Bo Van Pelt, Nick Watney, and Bubba Watson will join Tiger for the 72-hole, no-cut event.
Seven of the invitees are major winners. Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, and Brandt Snedeker have won the FedEx Cup. All of the participants except Bo Van Pelt have been members of Presidents or Ryder Cup teams.
The World Challenge has been held annually since 2000 and has had several different sponsors over the years. This will be the first year for Northwestern Mutual to be the host sponsor.
The World Challenge benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation and has provided millions of dollars that have been used to help increase education and promote various projects undertaken by the Foundation.
$4 million will be divided among the 18 participants with approximately $1.2 million going to the winner. The players will earn Official World Golf Ranking points but the money is unofficial for the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods is the defending champion and has won this event a total of five times. Other winners include Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, Luke Donald, Vijay Singh and Graeme McDowell.
It will be aired on the Golf Channel beginning at 3-6 PM EST, Thursday, November 29 through Sunday, December 2.
