Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Next Stop for LPGA Tour

The women of the LPGA Tour head to Rogers, Arkansas for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship this week. Rogers is located just north of Fayetteville, Arkansas and situated between Tulsa, Oklahoma and Springfield, Missouri.

The first NW Arkansas Championship was held in 2007 and only 18 holes were completed due to heavy rains that descended on the area. Stacy Lewis was still a student at the University of Arkansas and shot a seven-under-par 65. She was declared the winner of the unofficial rain-shortened event.

The names of past champions at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship are quite illustrious. Yani Tseng won here twice in 2010 and 2011, Ai Miyazato was the champion in 2012 and Inbee Park hoisted the trophy here last year.

Stacy Lewis is in the fourth week of holding down the top spot in the Rolex Ranking. She just finished runner-up at the U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst and has posted 12 top-10 finishes in 2014.

Michelle Wie moved from No. 11 to No. 7 in the world and is No. 2 in the Race to the CME Globe. She has posted nine top-10 finishes this season and is looking to climb higher on the LPGA Tour money list.

Inbee Park will defend her title this week. She won the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic two weeks before the U.S. Women’s Open, but faltered at Pinehurst finishing T-43.

Suzann Pettersen is ranked at No. 4 in the Rolex Ranking and missed the cut last week at Pinehurst. It was rumored that she was experiencing a recurrence of the back problem that caused her to miss some tournaments earlier in the season.

Teenagers, world No. 3 Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson ranked No. 5 in the world are both in the field this week in Arkansas.

Another deep field of talented ladies will vie for a piece of the $2 million total purse and the first place $300,000 check.

Golf Channel will carry tape delayed coverage of the first round on Friday, June 27, 9:00-11:00 PM ET. Second and Final rounds action will be carried live on Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 5:00-7:00 PM ET.
