Web.com Tour Visits South America for Colombia Championship

The Web.com Tour got the 2014 season underway with the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship from Bogota.

PGA Tour veteran Alex Cejka was three shots ahead of Andrew Putnam at 14-under when the event was shortened due to weather after 54 holes.

Four days of rain made the course unplayable and no scores were recorded for the final round.

Cejka was born in Czechoslovakia, grew up in Munich, Germany and now resides in Las Vegas. He is 43 years old, has been a professional golfer since 1989 and has four wins on the European Tour.

He has 25 career top-10 finishes, including two runners-up, on the PGA Tour and has earned nearly $8 million.

With a win this early in the Web.com Tour season, he has set himself up for a return to the PGA Tour next year.

Putnam the runner-up, is looking to duplicate his brother, Michael Putnam’s, performance last year capturing the No. 1 spot on the Web.com Tour and jumping onto the PGA Tour.

Carlos Ortiz a 22-year-old from Mexico finished solo third and Bill Lunde took the fourth spot.

Sam Saunders had a strong finish in Colombia. He tied at T-5 with Chris Wilson and Justin Thomas.

Other names of note:

PGA Tour veteran, Vaughn Taylor finished at seven-under par and tied for eighth. Glenn Day was T-21, while Billy Mayfair and Cold Knost were T-29. Rod Pampling was T-47, Carlos Franco T-54 and Tiger slayer, Nick O’Hearn finished 61st.

Ben Kohles, Len Mattice, Jesper Parnevik and Cameron Beckman failed to make the cut.

The Web.com Tour next moves to Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago, Chile for the Chile Classic, March 6-9.
