The PGA Tour moves to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship this week. This event annually draws one of the best fields on tour. It offers a total purse of $6.7 million with $1.2 million going to the winner.
Rickie Fowler is the defending champion. He made a birdie on the first playoff hole versus D.A. Points and Rory McIlroy to win his first PGA Tour title at this event last year.
Quail Hollow is a favorite among the players. It’s rolling terrain and tree-lined fairways create numerous challenges for the players. Opened in 1959 Quail Hollow has hosted the Kemper Open and the Paine Webber Invitational, as well as, the Wells Fargo Championship over the years.
The Wells Fargo Championship can be seen on Thursday and Friday on the Golf Channel. CBS will pick up the coverage for the weekend.
The LPGA Tour heads to Williamsburg, Virginia for the Kingsmill Championship. Kingsmill Resort has a rich history of hosting PGA and LPGA Tour events.
Jiyai Shin won the 2012 Kingsmill Championship in the longest playoff ever held on the LPGA Tour. She made a par on the ninth playoff hole to beat Paula Creamer.
The championship will be played on the Pete Dye redesigned, River Course, at the Kingsmill Resort. It offers a total purse of $1.3 million and $250,000 to the winner.
All four rounds will be aired on the Golf Channel beginning Thursday, May 2.
Woodlands, Texas will host the Champions Tour for the Insperity Championship. Fred Funk won this event last year and will defend his title.
Some of the biggest names on the Champions Tour have won the Insperity Championship including; Bernhard Langer, Fred Couples, Jay Haas and John Cook.
This will be the tenth year the Insperity Championship has been held as a Champions Tour event. It offers a total purse of $1.8 million.
All three rounds, Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, will be aired on the Golf Channel in the evening hours 7:00-9:30 PM EDT.
