The PNC Father/Son Challenge was held this weekend at the Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The Father/Son Challenge was revived this year after a three year hiatus.  It was an annual event that was held from 1995 through 2008.  The event lost its sponsor and was not held 2009-2011.

It features PGA Tour fathers that have won a major championship or the Players Championship paired with their siblings. 

Fuzzy Zoeller was paired with his daughter, Gretchen and Bernhard Langer played with his daughter, Christina.  Arnold Palmer played with his grandson Will Wears.

Jack Nicklaus’ son Gary was the oldest son in the competition.  Gary did a stint as a professional and nearly won an event on the PGA Tour.  He has left the professional game, however, and returned to amateur status.

Fred Funk’s son, Taylor was the youngest competitor at age 15.

The teams played a scramble format for the two-day 36-hole event.  Davis Love and his son Dru, a freshman at the University of Alabama shot a 12-under par 60 on Saturday to take the lead into the final round on Sunday.

The Loves followed their good play on Saturday with a 61 on Sunday to post 23-under par for the win.

Team Nelson gave the Loves a run with a putt that lipped out for eagle on the final hole.  Their birdie forced Davis and his son, Dru, to make birdie at the last to win outright.

It was very enjoyable to see the return of the PNC Father/Son Challenge on NBC. 

Anytime we get to watch Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus plus former major winners playing a casual yet competitive round of golf with their children it is a treat.
