Yani Tseng returns to her native Taiwan this week to defend her title and compete in the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship.
This will be the second time that Sunrise Golf Course has hosted the LPGA Taiwan Championship. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. design proved to be a difficult test for the ladies last year. Yani captured the 2011 Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship by a comfortable five shots.
The Taiwan Championship features a limited field of 78 players and there will be no cut.
Yani Tseng has won 15 LPGA Tour events and nearly $9 million in total prize money in just four years on the LPGA Tour.
She has been the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world for the last 89 weeks but has struggled throughout the summer to find the form that made her the most dominating woman in golf.
Her T-3 last week in the KEB-HanaBank Championship in Korea was her highest finish since a third place at the Kraft Nabisco in early April. Over her last 11 events she had missed three cuts and had no top-10 finishes.
Yani is only 23 years old and is the youngest golfer ever, man or woman, to win five major championships. She has won all of the major titles in the women’s game except for the U.S. Open.
Even though she struggled through the summer she had three wins earlier in the year and is No. 5 on the 2012 LPGA Tour’s money list with $1.2 million.
Maybe a little home cookin’ is just what she needs to find her form and get back into the winner’s circle.
