The temperature isn’t the only thing that’s sizzling in Arizona. Those Arizona Diamondbacks are so hot right now. With a 9-6 record, and a roster bursting with hitters, pitchers, and gloves, it’s safe to say the Diamondbacks are a team to watch out for.
One thing that the Diamondbacks have that a lot of Major League Baseball teams do not is a versatile player like Martin Prado. He can play just about every position. In the span of two days he’s played third, second, shortstop, and left field and played solid at each position, even laying out for a play or two. With second baseman Aaron Hill out 4-6 weeks due to broken left hand, Prado was shifted to second for Tuesday’s game against the Yankees, then the next day was kept at third as Josh Wilson took the start at second. DBacks fans are so Prado you.
Arizona’s bats have been tearing up the league also with four players hitting at a .333 batting average. Paul Goldschmidt, Jason Kubel, Wil Nieves, and Cody Ross have been dominate in the batter’s box so far this season. This is great news, since losing a hitter like Hill may have worried some.
Fantasy owners who have Gerardo Parra on their team are probably anything but worried. The dude began the season with a ridiculous .500/.500/1.000 in 16 at-bats, and manager Kurt Gibson recently announced Parra would remain the leadoff hitter until Adam Eaton or Willie Bloomquist return from the disabled list.
Switching gears to the guys on the bump; the pitching staff is also helping the team get some wins. Trevor Cahill recently had a solid outing against the Dodgers with seven strikeouts and they only managed to get six hits off of him. He has a 3.50 ERA so far this season. He faces the Rockies this weekend, in what should be a game to show off what he can do.
Lefty Patrick Corbin had a great start against the Yankees recently but unfortunately had to watch his bullpen ruin his win, while he held the pinstripes to one run while punching out seven over seven frames in a 6-2 extra inning win. Fantasy owners hold on to him tight. Corbin is swaggering a 1.42 ERA and a 1.05 WHIPS through three starts. He faces the World Champions next week. This will be a test for Patrick. Nothing he couldn’t handle though.
So I suppose simply saying “yes” to the statement in question would be easy enough. However, let’s remember the baseball season is just starting and there are plenty more games to be played. With Ross coming back and hitting the crap out of the ball and Didi Gregorious excited to get back in the game to replace Hill, I think Arizona fans will be pleased with the team this season. And you lucky guys get to see Amanda McCarthy on the regular. Like I said; hot.
