Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman seemed to be on his way to Southern California after multiple reports suggested that he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
After hours of assuming the flame-throwing closer was already a member of the Dodgers, news broke of an alleged domestic violence situation between the All-Star and his girlfriend in Miami this past October:
According to a police report, Chapman allegedly fired eight shots during the situation and choked his girlfriend. The pitcher's lawyer, Jay Reisinger, has since told Yahoo Sports! the domestic violence allegations are completely false.
While stopping short of providing an opinion on the situation itself, we can state that the deal to send Chapman to the Dodgers is off. It's also an indication that if the pitcher is moved it will be for pennies on the dollar. We know full well the domestic violence situation surrounding the professional sports world — something that will definitely play a role in what happens with Chapman moving forward.
Regarding the situation itself, Chapman admitted to firing the eight shots. However, conflicting stories from witnesses led to no arrests being made.
We will update this story as more becomes available. But for now, Chapman remains a member of the Reds.
