The Oakland Athletics added more pop to the lineup on Friday by acquiring Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Khris Davis in a deal that sends two minor leaguers to Wisconsin.
Davis, 28, hit 27 homers while driving in 66 runs for the Brewers last season. It was Davis' second consecutive season with 20-plus homers. He also put up a solid .828 OPS, showing solid advanced stats from a power perspective.
The move is interesting from Oakland's perspective, as the team currently has two left fielders vying for playing time in Coco Crisp and Mark Canha. Though, Davis' splits suggest he should get more time against lefties. He hit 21 homers and put up a .260 average against that crop of pitchers. In comparison, Davis tallied a .212 average with six homers against righties.
Milwaukee did pretty good for itself in this deal as well. It acquired catching prospect Jacob Nottingham, who was the centerpiece of the deal that sent Scott Kazmir to the Houston Astros during the 2015 season. This move also enables the Brewers to give young outfielder Domingo Santana an opportunity for more playing time in 2016.
