The top remaining free agent starting pitcher is now off the market. According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Baltimore Orioles have signed veteran righty Yovani Gallardo to a three-year, $35 million contract.
Gallardo, 29, put up a 13-11 record with a 3.42 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 33 starts for the AL West champion Texas Rangers last season.
A second-round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2004, Gallardo played his first eight MLB seasons with his original team, compiling double-digit wins campaigns in five of his past six seasons in Milwaukee. His best season came back in 2011 when Gallardo posted a 17-10 record with a 3.52 ERA. He also earned an All-Star appearnaces with the Brewers back in 2010.
Based on his previous success and the contract given to him, Gallardo projects to sit atop an otherwise average Orioles rotation. He should join Chris Tillman and Ubaldo Jimenez as one of Baltimore's top-three starters.
