Week one is coming to an end, which means it is time to asses some of the opening week surprises. There were players who dominated and players who disappointed greatly. Throughout the year players will go on runs. Last season Josh Hamilton went on a crazy streak, while in 2011 Matt Kemp started the year scorching.
In 2013, the baton is being passed to a 27 year old, playing in the AL East. The most surprising and exciting start to the season goes to this man.
Chris Davis First Basemen, Baltimore Orioles
Talk about a good week of ball! He currently has the best batting average in baseball, checking in at a .600 spot. Not only does he have a stellar batting average but he is also tied for the most home runs in baseball, with four. This means he has hit one home run in every game this season. He also has 16 RBIs, which is the most in the first four games in major league history. For a guy being drafted in roughly the 19th round, you can’t be upset with his numbers.
The next fantasy surprise came from a Seattle Mariner and his name is not Felix Hernandez.
Michael Morse Left Fielder, Seattle Mariners
Although he doesn’t have a staggering; 16 RBIs, he does have four home runs along with 6 RBIs. Many questioned what Morse would do after being the centerpiece of a three team trade in January. So far he has answered all doubters and is batting .333 throughout four games. Look for Morse to be a steady fantasy starter for weeks to come.
The next and final surprise start goes to a superstar involved in a mammoth trade that sent him to the NL East.
Justin Upton Left Fielder, Atlanta Braves
The fans at Turner Field greeted Upton very warmly in his first at bat. His reply has been three homers over a four game span. A lot of people questioned Upton after an injury plagued 2012 season but he is putting all doubters aside this year. He is currently batting .300 with five RBIs. Look for him to put up huge numbers over the next few months. This guy is locked in.
